Civarai

Understand what government is doing. Tell it what you want. Find out if it listened.

Civarai builds tools that help people follow public decisions, take part in them thoughtfully, and see what happened next. We start from the public record, not from opinions, and we never tell you what to think.

What we're building

Closing the loop between citizens and government

Most civic tools stop halfway. Some explain what government did. Others ask you to sign something. Almost none tell you whether taking part made a difference.

Understand

See what's being decided and what it means for you, in plain language, with every point traced back to the original source.

Act

Work out where you stand, then say so in your own words, to the right people, before the decision is made.

Check

Find out what happened next: what changed, what didn't, and whether your point was heard.

Then the next round begins, better informed than the last.

Understand your ballot before you cast it

The Ballot Review Guide turns the AI assistant you already use into a careful, even-handed research partner for every contest on your ballot.

  • It never recommends, ranks or scores a candidate or measure.
  • It researches every option to the same standard and says how sure it is.
  • It starts from what matters to you, and ends with a personalized voting guide you can print.

The Ballot Review Guide is free to use, adapt and share under CC BY 4.0. Civarai doesn't see your ballot or your conversation: they stay between you and your assistant. We count visits and copies of the guide, without cookies or anything that identifies you.

Principles

What we hold ourselves to

Evidence before opinion

Every claim points back to the public record it came from, so you can check it yourself.

Understanding before advocacy

Look at a proposal from every side, including its strongest critics, before you take a position.

One real person, one voice

AI helps you understand and organize your thoughts. It never speaks for you or multiplies your voice.

We don't tell you what to think

No endorsements, no ratings, no scores. Our job is to help you decide, not to decide for you.

Our first experiment

Citizen-directed legislation

The American Renewal Contract is a set of ten proposed acts, written in plain English. It is a test of a method, not a recommendation: read each proposal, examine it with your own AI from any point of view, including an opponent's, then tell us what you think and what you would change.

The proposals are one founder's starting point. Your reviews are how they improve.

The goal isn't to tell you what to think. It's to help you know why you think it.
Coming next

Know when a federal rule that affects you is open for comment

Before a federal agency finalizes a new rule, it has to ask the public what it thinks and answer the significant comments it receives. Most people never hear about it in time. We're building a simple way to find the rules that matter to you, understand them, and comment in your own words.

We'll only write to you about early access. No sharing, no selling.
